When Parents Grow Old

Lyubov Bondarenko

When parents grow old and time takes flight, Allow them, children, love's sweet care. They groan in pain, their strength grows slight, Not many days for them remain there.

Be patient, children, I implore, They raised you with devoted hands. Hold not their failings to deplore, Remember how you understand.

They taught your feet to walk the way, Held you aloft when you were small, Gave gifts and toys to you each day— Now comfort them and give them all.

Let them walk out with friends they've known, As once they let you roam and play. More often visit mother's home, And to your fathers make your way.

Do not leave them for lengthy time, When they sit lonely, all alone. With earnest prayer, with words sublime, Ask God to lengthen all their own.

Soon comes the parting, child, for thee, Their days grow shorter as they wane. Grant them more laughter, let them be Content and happy, free from pain…
