Christ Was Simple to the Depths of His Soul

Lyubov Bondarenko

I long to write of simplicity, But not the kind that's worse than theft. I wish to tell of Christ to all— May God grant me the words I need.

His Throne was higher than the stars so clear, Yet He descended from the Heavens down to save us all… A simple Jewish family raised the Boy, That He might bear the cross for us one day.

And He was simple to the depths of His soul, He always taught us to love one another, He wished to crush our every prideful thought, And loved us unto His own death.

His teaching, truly, all can comprehend, He lived and acted as He spoke, We can understand Him without strain, Among all people He walked in simplicity.

His love saved everyone from woe, He turned no one away from Him, He gave to all sound counsel true, And knew our nature through and through.

And, though our hearts were hard as stone, He wrought good deeds and was our guide. We always had one Father with Him, And He came to all people as a brother.

We celebrate His Birth today, As an Infant He came, trusting us. But then we did not understand Him, Not believing our own eyes.

Centuries have passed, we now can see His love, forsaking empty cares. And beg that He forgive us all And bow before the Lord Christ.
