Envy Not the One

Aleksei Dunaev

Envy not the one who never knew The terrible and piercing pain, Though he in contentment shall remain, And darkness will not pull him through—

Of trials, tragedies, and grief's refrain. Do not envy, I implore you still! Do not burn your soul with hellish will— With needless envy's dark domain.

But rather let us lift and cheer Those struggling on, who cannot rise. For hard-won wisdom's worth is higher far Than fleeting earthly victories' prize.
