The story of Vasily and Valentina was, of course, less dramatic than that of Lida and Valentin. Vasily and Valentina also met in the Shanghai church, where Valentina sang in the choir. Her beautiful and powerful voice was mesmerizing, and her slender figure and long blonde hair could not leave unmoved such a gallant fellow as our Vasily. Upon meeting her, Vasily understood that Valentina was precisely the girl with whom he wanted to build his life. At that time, Vasily was an outstanding athlete, and one might even say – one of the leaders of the local football and volleyball teams. Valentina greatly enjoyed Vasily's athletic lifestyle, and she attended all his games to support him.
When Vasily left to build a refugee camp in the Philippines, Valentina missed him greatly and at the first opportunity departed for the islands to help Vasily. Their meeting in the Philippines was very emotional, and from that day they did not part.
