The Restless Sea
The restless sea, grey element, You know no peace within the world. Your boundless expanse, the ocean's descent, Met us with tempests as our fate unfurled.
Your blue expanse delights the sight, It beckons to the weary-souled. A soul exhausted by heat's blight, In your currents finds peace of old.
That expanse like a mirror reflects the light, And heaven bathes within your streams, The weary wanderer's eyes grow bright, Desiring to embody your dreams.
So yearns the soul and sometimes strains, To rise above to heaven's height, Where eternal kingdom of love reigns In blessed heavenly dwellings bright.
So often is our life like the sea— It lures the weary with false rest, Conceals itself in flattery, For many proves a fateful test.
When once I dared contend with the sea, Another element appeared before me then: Life's ocean, full of tears and misery, Now rages as I fight again.
And by the shore the waters flow so still, Inviting me to paths unknown. My soul already dreams of hills, And heavenly refuge feels like home.
