A Lesson in Humility

Svetlana Terebylyna

I almost opened up my mouth To let my justification fly… But my Lord stepped forth And steadied my breath's cry.

He counseled me to hold my tongue And bow meekly to reproof. "You need not your defense be sung,"— The Lord told me with truth.

"Accept all shame and scorn. After it, blessing shall appear. For judgment is not by men born. They, like you, are My creation here.

They can judge and condemn, When they glimpse but truth's small gleam. Then understand and hold again. And later fall to temptation's scheme…

Such is all mankind's way. Trust in Me, do not despair. I bore this pain from them each day And give you this: humility's care.

The Father sees from on high. Before Him hearts are pages spread. If you defend yourself—why, Then I cannot come to your aid instead.

But if you drink the cup completely: Shame, reproach, condemnation's weight, And in your heart dwells peace sweetly, Then blessing shall on your life await.

Let your friends grow and mature. Give time for all to see aright. Who loves will justify for sure. But if they don't—words bring no light."
