Deserts Too Must Be Traversed

Svetlana Terebylyna

Deserts too must be traversed… To nobly bear the scorching sand… Rising, falling, crying out in anguish, Here one can surrender heart to God.

Deserts too must be traversed… Ahead awaits the shaded coolness Of a flowering, sprawling garden… God will quench our burning thirst!

Deserts too must be traversed… And we must see in them a blessing, A lesson of goodness, patience, and submission. In deserts one can gain something true.

Deserts too must be traversed… Where so much wisdom's salt emerges Through tears of loneliness and sorrow! God can open springs of water here.

Deserts too must be traversed… Though it seems the dunes have no ending, And rivers in them prove deceiving, Yet still the dove continues circling…

Deserts too must be traversed… Sometimes they stretch so endlessly, That strength seems gone for moving forward! No strength to breathe, much less to live!

Deserts too must be traversed… Lead, O Lord! I wish to pass with honor… Though to my feet the heat brings only pain… And lips whisper only: "God, a drink…"
