The City of Peace
There will be no hatred, no warfare's call— In this city of peace and endless light, And breathing with eternal spring through all, Christ's Church shall be eternally bright.
The gates stand open always, night and day, Imagine—they will never close their door, For thieves can never find their evil way Into that holy city evermore.
There will be neither groaning sound nor tear, The heavenly dwellers breathe in joy complete. In glory eternal—Christ our Savior dear, And all the ransomed hear His words so sweet.
We dream about that city far away, We speak of it most frequently and long, As through our lives with Christ we find our way, We wait for that most holy place so strong.
Within that city, janitors are none, All streets are shining gold in endless gleam. The secret of perfection there is won— No one desires sin or shameful dream.
That city waits for all redeemed in heart, For those washed clean by Christ's own precious blood. Our merciful Father set apart That city for the faithful, filled with love.
To this most holy city paved with gold, Do not forget to claim your citizenship. No stranger can its gates pass to behold, No one can take another's share or strip.
To this great city of love's endless might Our Savior still extends His call. Friend, turn from sin and live in His light— While yet His voice invites you one and all.
