I can do nothing without God, Helplessness strikes me to the ground. In vain I burn my candles against the wind, Clutching ambition's ideal in my hand.

Diligence is a dangerous game. My persistence is merely waste of strength, Without the Lord I'll freeze by the fire, Die of thirst, no matter how much I drink.

Why try to build another Babel And tiny towers upon the sand, When He commands the Universe itself, Showing love in every petal that expands...

Like a sailboat without wind—so am I: I cannot hold myself upon the waves, And instead of singing, only whimpers sound To the joy of my merciless foe.

Without the Creator's kindness here on earth, I in this world will simply disappear. Even in the sea do ships burn bright, When without the Lord they chart their course...
