The Baptism of the Lord

Soslan Botyev

Christ was baptized, and to the desert By God's own Spirit he was led. Through fasting, worn down in the flesh, He kept faith's sanctuary sacred.

And with temptation threefold striking, The cunning one approached him near, But found no part of weakness here— The Lord rejected his dark whisper.

"You are My Son, in whom I'm pleased!" He heard God's voice descend from heaven. "Be ready in each hour given!"— The Saviour gave us this decree.

That we, baptized and born anew, With conscience's good oath made fast, Might keep the covenant at last, Christ's teaching faithfully pursue!
