The Good Samaritan

Aleksandr Zaletsky

The road to Jericho is perilous, I know, But trusting God, myself and my small ass, In prayer I magnify His name below: A road with prayer grows light to cross and pass.

I strive toward my goal with steadfast heart, Though hard the way may be, though steep the grade, Come on, my donkey, play your faithful part, Fear God alone—of nothing else, be afraid!

Though I wear no ecclesiastic stole, No soul to me is foreign or unknown: The one made victim, robbed of all control, The one left destitute, bereft, alone.

With precious wine I bathe the wounded sore, With balm miraculous I soothe the pain— For you are my neighbor, and I am therefore A Samaritan: I love you as myself's domain!

I strive toward my goal with steadfast heart, Though hard the way may be, though steep the grade, Come on, my donkey, play your faithful part, Fear God alone—of nothing else, be afraid!
