Christmas Stars

Vladymyr Sharykov

The Christmas stars have kindled bright With ancient glow and warming flame. He wandered through the world so late, A timid figure at the frame…

They wailed and wept and called in sorrow, Seeing no end to their distress… Yet He arrived! They did not borrow Faith in a King without a crest.

Our world was cruel and steeped in sin— Passions burned wild, blood was spilled… And then at last the cross was pinned, Raising God's nature, manifest and willed…

I hear the Angels singing sweetly. The night, like day, is calm and bright… Thus the Omnipresent, completely, Took flesh to give us bodies new and white.

Drawn by compassion without measure, No longer waiting centuries long, He merged with life, our greatest treasure, And broke the chains that held us wrong.

…The Christmas stars burn ever brighter With most pure light and warmth sublime… I came into the world—a lighter, A guest unneeded—now I leave for Home Divine!
