I Go to the Temple Early This Morning

I go to the temple early this morning, at the break of dawn, Like Mary Magdalene or Peter and John. Where imperceptibly it melts in the lilac veil Of the troubled night's gracefully drowsy state. I shall see a wondrous mystery on the transparent heights, How the raspberry-rosy sky tries on its cloak, And I shall hear, how welcomingly in solemn peaceful silence My name resounds and soothingly: "Do not weep." I shall see and hear how, captivated and joyfully, Rivers clap their hands and spring songs rise from trees. And my troubled soul shall also join the singing, For this is a hymn to Life and Love that never dies. In the dawn's contemplation, through indifferent drowsiness I, moved to tears, shall feel the wind's quiet rustle of wings. And reverent triumph shall overflow my soul, And it shall flood with light, like the morning sky. The young horizon blazes in golden oar-strokes. Dressed in white garments, my heart shines too. I go to the temple this morning to meet the Risen One, For He is not in the tomb. He truly has risen!
