I Avoid the Word "Age"

I avoid the word "age" (And is there no reason why?), When wings grow heavy forever And bags form under my eyes. What of it that time like a storm Has swept over me, unnoticed, That time has erased my youth, Though it never touched my soul! And why are all people so blind, And why in one thing are they all the same— That they often cannot see the soul, Yet can crawl right into it?! Our fate, whether heavy or laughable— A precious treasure in a simple shell!... Is a sweet always tasty In a beautiful wrapper? Is there ever a wise balance? Where then is the final period placed? What is it they love in us after all?— A question...
