Do You Perceive
Do you perceive, my brother dear, How this world lives in sin's dark way? It works its evil far and near, Each moment, each successive day. For they live on in sin, from God, In daily vanity confined. The soul is worn by care's sharp goad, The days pass empty, unaligned. For Jesus Christ the Savior true Has no more time within their sight, For sinful temptation's subtle hue Robs them of peace and restful night. The heart grows weary with alarm, Evil swirls in wind and snow. Yet still the soul seeks not the charm— Has lost its sacred aim below. Only God can bring true rest, Plants His peace within the soul— No hollow laughter at its best, He Himself makes us whole. So in your prayer bend your knee In early dawn and evening hour. Trust your heart to God to be— He alone is strength and power!
