Storm beyond the window, peace within— Barely breathes a gentle, freshing breeze. God's own Spirit, wiping tears away, In my soul breathes warmth of hope... Storm beyond the window. Once in storms I sought the fullness of life's way: To rush headlong—unto oblivion, To feel cold shudder through my veins. Then with spirit broken, God I sought To find within the tempest's rage, In earthly passions' vanities— The terrible, the mighty, the divine. I found Him not. And in my soul there burst A wild tempest of despair. Suddenly: "Be still!"—a voice not of this world In my heart rang out with holy peace. God found me, and with softest step Into my soul He entered quiet... In Him are hope and faith and love... Storm beyond the window—peace within my heart.
