Justice

Elena Vykulyna

You say that God is unjust and unfair, That He does not concern Himself with man, That He's not all-powerful, does not care, When such things happen throughout His span.

You say God does not mind the lies and greed, Corruption, ruin, bombing from the sky, That all the human suffering and need Do not disturb Him as the years pass by.

You speak… but silence would become you more. Set down your pride and think a moment true: 'Twas not God who placed explosives at war, To rob men's lives in seconds, through and through.

It's people, blinded deep by sin's own chains, Consumed with greed and hunger after power, Who daily breed lawlessness and pains, Who build their happiness in blood each hour.

In truth, with hearts grown callous and turned stone, We humans have become our own dark doom, When we have not in God our peace condone, But solve all things through violence and gloom.

And thus we breed more evil than before— Against the strong, a stronger force will rise. Oh, if the Earth could speak, with thunderous roar, It would cry out more loud than any cries.

It was our brilliant minds that did design Destructive bombs of unimaginable might. Not God, but darkness' spawn and children's fine Prepare themselves to murder and to fight.

Unmoved, how many mothers now deny God's law and brutally transgress His word, And kill their unborn, and they let them die, Before the light of day could be preferred.

The world gone mad, has love itself forgot. At times the animals are kinder still. In truth, God's justice seems unjust, I've thought— His mercy has exceeded justice' will.

Not one of us deserves to live and breathe, God's vengeance should have long ago come due. But so that we might gain eternal reprieve, He gave His Son, and suffered for us too.

Christ hung upon that cross and bore the pain, Fulfilling God's own justice there on high. The weight of punishment, the crushing strain, He bore upon Himself, so we need not cry.

One day God's wrath will pour upon the land For those who did not glorify the Son. That day will come when all will understand What God's own justice truly has been done.

Say not that God is unjust, cold, unfair! His mercy has its bounds, do not mistake. Come unto Him while yet He hears your prayer, Before the night falls, for the evening's sake.
